Kolkata hosts the 3rd edition of Chitra Devi Music & Dance Festival

Kolkata/IBNS: The third edition of the prestigious Chitra Devi Music & Dance Festival was recently held at Rotary Sadan.

It was organized by the Sanchita Dance Foundation in association with Techno India University and the Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the event showcased a stunning fusion of music and dance performances by globally acclaimed artists, captivating the audience.

The festival began with a performance by Sangeet Natak Akademy award-winning flautist Pt. Ronu Majumder, accompanied by Pt. Prosenjit Poddar. This was followed by an enchanting Bharatanatyam performance by the distinguished Padmashree Guru Prathibha Prahlad.

The event further honored Guru Poushali Mukherjee and Guru Sutapa Talukdar for their outstanding contributions to Odissi classical dance.

A special recognition was given to PP Rtn Subhojit Roy by the Sanchita Dance Foundation and Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya for his tireless efforts in promoting art and culture across India and globally, through his work as a columnist and Public Relations specialist.

The festival concluded with a captivating Mahari dance presentation by Guru Rupashree Mohapatra, a recipient of the Mahari Award and Debadasi National Award.

The programme was presented by Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya and PP Rtn Subhojit Roy, who, in his closing remarks referring to the people's movement over the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder victim, said, "We shall carry back the prayer in our heart for 'Abhaya' and our resolve that we demand justice."

The Chitra Devi Music & Dance Festival continues to be a significant cultural platform, celebrating the rich heritage of Indian classical music and dance.
