Kolkata, May 3 (IBNS) Santoor maestro Pt Tarun Bhattacharya is all set to deliver a key performance in the city at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium, ICCR on Wednesday.

The concert named 500 strings of Santoor, will feature Bhattacharya along with his four other disciples, Chiradip Sarkar, Kunal Saha, Tapas Sengupta and Arijit Biswas, who will play the string instrument simultaneously. They will be accompanied by Pradip Nag on the Mohan Veena and Prosenjit Poddar on the Tabla.

Calling it 'one of a kind theme' Bhattacharya told IBNS: "It's a totally new concept and nobody did it before except me."

"I hope my audience will experience a devotional feel from the first item Raag Bhoopali, then Raag Khambaj. I will also play Vaisnava Jana and bhajan. Followed by nostalgic feel from my famous Bhatiyali dhun, then outdoor effect of hill. the hillside melody," he said.

"This is the first commercial show where all public will come. So for me its a challenge to prove the strength of this item amongst aam janta," Bhattacharya added.

When asked why he decided to do it with his students, the maestro said, "The main goal is to present and give chance to the gen-ex. For budding music artists it's very difficult to get chance to go on stage though they are all deserving. All of them are my students."
