Kolkata: Six prominent Delhi designers come together to house their collections at The Hangar
The Hangar, a ground breaking contemporary lifestyle space, will house the labels Namrata Joshipura, Pankaj&Nidhi, Payal Pratap, Play Clan, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Tulsi by Neeru Kumar
Located in the upscale neighbourhood of Alipore, The Hangar has been converted into a lifestyle destination from former port trust sheds. The designers already had a strong presence in Kolkata, and felt that now was the time to establish a permanent address given the importance of the Kolkata market.
Organic and elemental materials such as fiber board, steel piping, concrete and jali have been used to create an industrial aesthetic that is softened by the beautiful clothes and products. Adding to the interesting juxtaposition of materials, a formidable wall of plant boxes greets clients as they enter the space.
Amith Chabra, architect, of Livin' Colors Design has reconstituted the voluminous space into six open shops that are demarcated but designed to encourage a communal interaction. Ankush Seth of Mobile Technikshad been given the challenge of executing the interior elements of The Hangar - pieces were crafted in their Delhi workshop and shipped to Kolkata.
