Narula Institute of Technology, flagship college of JIS Group, holds it first convocation, 840 students receive their degrees

Kolkata/IBNS: Narula Institute of Technology, an autonomous Engineering and Management Institute under the JIS Group, recently organised its first Degree Award Distribution Ceremony for the class of 2017, 2018 and 2019 batches, at NiT Campus, Agarpara.

Narula Institute of Technology, the flagship college of the JIS Group, established in 2001, is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) and acquired the autonomy status from University Grants Commission (UGC) and MAKAUT in 2015.

The Degree Award Ceremony started with a grand procession followed by the NiT anthem.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr) Saikat Maitra of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal was the Chief Guest and presided over the Degree Award Ceremony.

Prof. (Dr.) Pushpak Bhattacharya, Director, IIT Patna, Prof. (Dr.) Sriman Kumar Bhattacharya, Deputy Director, IIT Kharagpur and Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Ajoy Kumar Ray, former Director IIEST, Shibpur were the guests of honour.

Congratulating the graduating students, Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group said, “The learning years are the most important and vital days in a student’s life. It is education that transforms and affects the society and the future generations. The convocation is not only a way to felicitate them, but also a platform to make the Graduates realize their duties towards society with the knowledge they have acquired.”

“We not only see that the students come out of the college only being a graduate and a Master degree holder; apart from giving them the proper education, we also stress on their becoming a good human being and a good citizen of the society. We keep up the founder Chairman Sardar Jodh Singh’s motto, "Education is simply the soul of the society as it passes from one generation to another," he said.

Prof (Dr) Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, Principal,NiT; Nidhi Singh, Registrar, NiT; and Prof. Amlan Chakrabarti, COE, NiT were also present.

At the Ceremony, 840 students of B. Tech, M.Tech, MCA and MBA were awarded their degrees.

Of them, 701 from batch of 2019, 100 from batch of 2018 and 39 from batch of 2017 were felicitated.

The toppers of each stream were conferred with medals.

Prof Dr. Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, Principal, Narula Institute of Technology congratulated all the students and welcomed them to the NiT alumni family.

Nidhi Singh, Registrar, said, “Graduation is never a goodbye for the students. As NiT alumni, they will remain connected in some way with the Institute. Narula is and forever will be a second home for them.”

She also added that entire fraternity of JIS Group is always motivated to provide extraordinary support to the students.
