Jaipur/IBNS: Member of Parliament, Princess Diya Kumari appreciated the efforts of the Bhartiya Skill Development University (BDSU) towards empowering students, during her visit to the institute’s campus.

An MP from Rajsamand in Rajasthan, Diya Kumari is a member of the Jaipur royal family.

The Bhartiya Skill Development University, established in 2016, draws inspiration from the ‘Swiss Dual System’ of education where students simultaneously pursue their studies and receive on-the-job training.

BDSU is part of the Rajendra and Ursula Joshi (RUJ) Charitable Trust, an arm of the RUJ Group.

The objective of BSDU is to support, promote and undertake the advancement of the high quality skill education leading to Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post–doctoral degrees in the fields of different skills and offer opportunities for research, advancement and dissemination of knowledge, the institute said in a release.

The university had also offered international internships prior to the pandemic.

Owing to the pandemic containment rules, the academic process of the university is currently limited to online classes.

Diya Kamari said that the current pandemic has further added relevance to skill upgradation.

She said, “Any education system must address the real needs of the time like for surviving this New Normal, skills are important for one to survive and develop. As per now, not only our country but the whole world is facing real challenges due to the novel virus disruptions.”

“I would love to see the people of Rajasthan getting skilled and working for the industry and get employed and working by themselves. Apprenticeship is one of the key programs for creating skilled manpower in India and achieving the motive of being Self Reliant,” she said.

Prof. Achintya Choudhury, President, BSDU said it is important to focus on the process of innovation to meet the post lockdown economic resurgence.

“Since the Corona crisis has altered the nature of jobs there is a call for Atmanirbhar Bharat or self- reliance. There is a need to respond against crises with global quality. To become self-reliant, we have to build up on the strengths of India, by staying relevant which is possible only by being skilled,” he said.
