Mumbai: Reliance Retail on Monday launched the JioBook in India, an 11-inch laptop featuring an HD screen and an octa-core processor at a price of Rs 16,499.

Positioned as the "first learning book," the company aims to empower individuals on their educational journey, it said in a press release.

Reliance presents the device as a learning companion and a platform for cloud computing, offering an impressive eight-hour battery life with regular usage.

The JioBook exhibits a stylish design with a matte finish and a slim profile, weighing a mere 990 grams.

Running on a 2.0 GHz MediaTek MT 8788 octa-core processor, the laptop is equipped with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and has an internal storage capacity of 64GB, which can be expanded up to 256GB using microSD cards.

Instead of Windows 10 or 11, the JioBook operates on Reliance's proprietary JioOS operating system, which might be a customized version of Google's Android OS.

The device supports 4G LTE connectivity and boasts dual-band WiFi support. The keyboard features 75 keys, and the laptop includes a trackpad with gesture navigation support.

With its user-friendly features and focus on learning, the JioBook is set to cater to the education and computing needs of users in India.

the JioBook supports gaming through JioCloudGames and allows users to access educational content via Jio TV. To enhance its educational focus, the laptop comes equipped with JioBIAN, a "ready coding environment," enabling students to learn programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and Perl.

Users will receive 100GB of cloud storage and a one-year subscription to Quick Heal's anti-virus software. The JioBook seamlessly integrates with Jio's suite of apps and services, providing a comprehensive user experience.

Despite its seemingly modest specifications, the JioBook comes at an attractive price of Rs 16,499, making it an enticing deal.

It will be available for purchase starting August 5, accessible through Reliance Digital's online and offline stores, as well as on Amazon.

With its budget-friendly pricing and focus on education and entertainment, the JioBook aims to cater to a wide range of users in India.

"The all-new JioBook is our latest offering catering to learners of all ages with its advanced features and seamless connectivity options. We believe JioBook will revolutionise the way people learn, opening new opportunities for personal growth and skill development," a Reliance retail Spokesperson told the press.
