Renowned Malayalam writer Valsala no more
Kozhikode/UNI: Renowned Malayalam writer and former Kerala Sahitya Akademi Chairperson P Valsala, passed away due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital at Mukkam KMCT Medical college hospital, on Tuesday night.
She was 85 and survived by husband Murali M Appukutty and two children M A Mini and M A Arun. The funeral function will be held on Thursday.
Valsala has won many literary accolades including Kerala Sahithya award fro Nizhalurangunna Vazhikal , Ezhuthachan Award in 2021, Padma Prabha award, Muttathu Varkey award and CV Kunhiraman Memorial sahithya awards.
She has been active in the literature field since the 1960's and wrote the first novel "Thakarcha" in 1969. She also penned over 17 novels and 25 short stories.
Her Novel "Nellu" written in 1972 narrates the lives of tribal communities in Wayanad, which later became a Malayalam film and was adapted by Ramu Kariat.
She was born as the eldest daughter of K Chandhu and Padmavathi in Kozhikode on April 4,1938. She had an experience as a teacher of Koduvally GHSS and retired as Head teacher from Government Training college, Kozhikode.
