Singer donates part of music album sale proceeds for welfare of Kolkata's Mehboob Band

Kolkata, Sep 6 (IBNS): Music composer and director Debojyoti Mishra recently launched a music album titled 'Aamar Praner Manush', which contains some popular Tagore songs (Rabindra-sangeet) sung by London-based Soma Das.

The programme was hosted by Starmark, one of Kolkata's leading lifestyle and entertainment chain of stores, in association with Times Music.

A part of the sale proceeds of the album will be donated for the welfare of Kolkata's Mehboob Band, the organisers said.

Mishra has also arranged the music of the album, which contains eight well-known Tagore songs.

Soma Das received her Diploma in Tagore songs from Dakshinee,  a reputed music institution of Kolkata, and has also trained under Haimanti Shukla and Suprakash Chaki.

Along with the launch of the music album, members of Mehboob Band were also felicitated.

Mehboob Band started its journey in pre-independence Kolkata, They were based in Harrison Road, now known as  Mahatma Gandhi Road.

Although wedding and other procession with music bands are on the wane, Mehboob Band still performs at festive and social occasions.
