U.S. Consulate Kolkata in partnership with Prayassam and NGO Amyaa hosted a screening of the Reels created by the participants of Community Youth Hub.

There were 8 participants from Arunachal Pradesh and 15 from Kolkata.

The reels were based on various social issues like Human rights violation, Gender-based violence, Climate change, Flood, Problem of drugs, Healthcare, Depression, Misuse of social media, Fake news, etc.

The welcome remark was delivered by American Center Director Elizabeth Lee.

Workshops were held to up-skill the participants in creating Reels to creatively capture social issues and developing Comics to portray issues in the local communities.  The participants learnt how to shoot reels, how to write script, video-editing, etc.

They also learnt how a single video can impact community life.

The Community Youth Hub project started in September 2023, and addresses the absence of knowledge and understanding of freedom of speech and expression of marginalized economically challenged communities, the existing ecosystem of disinformation, and biased journalism, that keeps people on the fringes of society in the dark about their rights.

The Community Youth Hub started at the grassroots level whereby the youth leaders and content creators from the marginalized communities voice their own freedom of speech and work to uphold democratic rights.

The HUB will act as the central headquarter of the youth communities in Kolkata, West Bengal, and Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, belonging to the marginalized sectors. The teams of youth were initially connected virtually with each other through Prayasam and partner NGO Amyaa.
