Maharashtra: Five test positive for Covid-19

Bengal: Covid cases jump to 2,576 with 115 fresh cases, toll reaches 160

With 115 new cases were reported in last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has reached 2576, including 1452 active cases, 160 Covid fatalities, 72 comorbidity deaths and 892 discharges, officials said on Saturday.
West Bengal Home Secretary, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, said that in last 24 hours, seven Covid deaths were confirmed while 63 more patients were discharged after treatment.
Issuing a bulletin on Saturday evening, state health department said that the recovery rate in the state has risen to 34.63 per cent.
The bulletin stated that West Bengal has tested 77288 samples till date, with 7745 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
Presently, 9667 persons are kept in government quarantine centres across West Bengal while 50258 people are under home surveillance in the state, reports said.

Two more positive COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam’s capital city Guwahati on Saturday.
In the last 72 hours, 27 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Guwahati.
The new two cases have been related to an earlier COVID-19 patient of Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati.
With the new cases, the state tally is now increased to 91.
Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, among the two new cases one is a barbar and another is a handcart puller.

COVID-19: Elderly man dies in Varanasi
May 16, 2020, at 03:39 pmAn elderly man succumbed to the novel coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Saturday.
Official sources here said that the patient, who was about 73 years old and hailed from the Naria area, died while receiving treatment at a hospital in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He had been admitted on May 13 and the area where he resided had been declared a hotspot.
Earlier, a 58-year-old woman succumbed to COVID-19 in the district on Friday.

A 55-year-old woman succumbed to the COVID-19 at the Government Medical College and Hospital(GMCH) while 56 new cases were detected here on Thursday, stated GMCH Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar.
On May 12, the deceased was brought to the GMCH following the reference of a private hospital, Dr Kanan said, adding that the woman tested COVID-19 post admittance.
Cases in Himachal Pradesh mount to 70
May 14, 2020, at 11:31 amCOVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh surged to 70 with two more people testing positive for the virus, Additional Chief Secretary Health R D Dhiman said on Thursday.
A 30-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter from Paonta Sahib were tested positive for SARS-COV-2 early Friday, Dhiman confirmed.
Both had returned from North East Delhi on May 4 and were under home quarantined.
On Wednesday a 29-year-old male had tested positive in Kangra. The youth is from Kakrain village in tehsil Palampur and had returned from Gurugram on April 28.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in India crossed 78,000 with over 2,500 of them dying from the respiratory disease on Thursday as the vast country of 1.3 billion people is set to end the third phase of anti-Coronavirus lockdown.
As per the latest update by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 78,003 people including 2,549 deceased and 26,235 cured have been infected.
Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has recorded 25,922 cases followed by Gujarat (9,267), Tamil Nadu (9,227) and the national capital Delhi (7,998).
Septuagenarian dies in Jammu, tests positive

He became 11th victim of the pandemic in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, hospital sources said here.
They further said that he died at his residence on Tuesday at Preet Nagar in Digiana area following which the family took him to GMC Jammu, where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Kuwait records 11,028 cases, 82 deaths

Kuwait on Wednesday reported 751 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths, raising the tally of infections in the country to 11,028 and the death toll to 82, Kuwaiti Health Ministry said in a statement.
Currently, 7,683 patients are receiving treatment, including 169 in ICU, according to the statement.
In addition, the ministry announced the recovery of 162 more patients from the coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 3,263.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday pitched for his favourite "Make In India" campaign to build a self-reliant India while announcing a mega 20 lakh crore economic package, the second since the Covid-19 outbreak, besides almost notifying an extension of the ongoing lockdown- Lockdown 4.0- but with "different colours" hinting that the stringencies might be reduced.
Modi said the package targetted for all sections of the society will focus on land, labour, liquidity and law.
"The package will be for all farmers as well as middle class people who pay income tax with honesty," said the PM though the details of the package will be disclosed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in coming days.

Not spilling the beans about how the lockdown 4.0 would shape, Modi has hinted the country will have to live with the contagion with no vaccine or cure yet for longer times.
"All scientists are saying Coronavirus will remain in our lives for a longer time. But we will have to transcend. We will wear masks and maintain social distancing but also we will have to achieve our targets," said Modi.
"All details about lockdown 4.0 will be given before May 18," said the PM who held a marathon around six-hour long meeting with all Chief Ministers a day ago.
India went into the lockdown mode first on Mar 24 midnight when Modi had announced a 21-day shutdown which was later extended twice till May 17.

India witnessed a massive jump in the number of Covid-19 cases as the tally went passed 67,000 on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding his fifth video conference with all Chief Ministers over Coronavirus and the nationwide lockdown.
Over 4,000 Covid cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours though the recovery cases have also surpassed 20,000 across the vast country of 1.3 billion people.
As per the last update, 67,152 people have contracted the pandemic virus with the state of Maharashtra still leading the tally with its 22,171 cases followed by Modi's home state Gujarat (8,194).
Among 67,152, 20,917 people have either been cured or discharged while 2,206 Covid patients have died so far in the country.
Modi along with his battery of top ministers began the video conference with the CMs at 3 in the afternoon and the meeting is likely to continue till late night.

Only six active Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh

With the discharge of four Coronavirus patients from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur after their recovery, the number of active Coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh has gone down to six.
State health minister TS Singhdeo tweeted that four patients including two from Kabirdham (Kawardha) district and two from Surajpur district were discharged from AIIMS Raipur after their recovery.
As many as 15 patients were discharged from AIIMS Raipur during the last three days.
Now six Coronavirus infected patients are currently undergoing treatment in AIIMS Raipur.
Haryana records 16 fresh cases, tally rises to 705
May 11, 2020, at 02:55 pmHaryana reported 16 fresh cases of Novel Coronavirus on Monday, taking the state's confirmed cases tally to 705.
According to the official Health bulletin, out of 16 new cases, Jhajjar district reported nine, followed by Sonepat five and Mahendergarh and Charkhi Dadri one fresh case each.
Of the ten fatalities till now, three deaths each have been reported from Panipat and Faridabdad districts, two from Ambala district, while one death each was reported from Karnal and Rohtak districts.
Gurugram tops the tally in the state with 142 confirmed cases, followed by Sonepat 105, Faridabad 95, Jhajjar 83, Nuh 60, Ambala 41, Palwal 37, Panipat 36, Panchkula 22, Jind 17, Karnal 14, Yamunanagar eight, Fatehabad and Sirsa seven each, Bhiwani six, Rohtak and Mahendergarh five each, Hisar four, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari and Kaithal three each and Kurukshetra district recorded two cases.
Out of 58,352 samples, 705 have tested positive and 52,346 negative, while reports of 5,287 were awaited. There are 409 active cases in the state.
Home Ministry asks states to cooperate with railways over running of trains for migrant workers

After facing criticism over its "unplanned lockdown" after several migrant workers were killed on railway tracks days ago, the Union Home Ministry on Monday wrote a letter to all states asking for cooperation with the railways for the running of Shramik Special Trains.
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla in a letter to the states said, ".. Since their movement by buses and 'Shramik' special trains has already been allowed to enable their travel to native places, all State/UT Governments should ensure that migrant workers do not resort to walking on road and on railway tracks.."
"Further as requested by the Cabinet Secretary, all State/UT Governments should cooperate with the railways in running of more number of 'Shramik' special trains so that travel of stranded migrant workers is facilitated at a faster rate," said Bhalla.
In another letter, Bhalla asked the states to "ensure smooth movement, including inter-state, of all medical professionals, paramedic staff, sanitation personnel and ambulances etc".
"Private clinics and nursing homes be allowed to open without hindrances to facilitate fighting COVID-19 and non-COVID emergencies," Bhalla said.
Shram Shakti Bhavan closed as employee tests positive

After an officer in the Ministry of Power tested positive for Coronavirus, Shram Shakti Bhavan, which houses Labour Ministry, was closed on Monday.

COVID-19 cases in West Bengal near 2000-mark

The Covid-19 tally in the south Asian country India is nearing 60,000 with almost 2,000 of them dying as 36 states and union territories are set to enter into the last week of the lockdown.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 59,662 people including 17,847 cured and 1,981 deceased have been infected with the contagion.
Maharashtra, the western state of the country, reported 19,063 cases keeping the business capital of India on an edge.
Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has so far reported 7,402 cases followed by the national capital Delhi 6,318.
U'khand records four more cases, tally reaches 67

As per the latest health bulletin, all the fresh cases were reported from Udham Singh Nagar district.

Cases in UP reach 3265, recovery rate goes up to 43 pc

The recovery rate of Coronavirus patients in Uttar Pradesh is improving day by day even though 51 fresh positive cases on Saturday took the total tally to 3265 in the state.
There are 1800 active patients in the state while 1399 have recovered and 66 people have died of the virus, said state principal secretary health Amit Mohan Prasad here on Saturday.
He said that the recovery rate has touched 43 per cent which is more than the national average of 30 per cent.
There are 1864 patients in the isolation bed and 8722 people in the facility quarantine.
On Friday, the state went for 4525 tests and till date the total tests done in the state was 1,24,741.
In the 334 pool tests done on Friday, 25 were found positive.

West Bengal has reported 108 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the tally of cases to 1786, said state's home secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.
The total number of active cases is now 1243.
11 people have died of Covid in the last 24 hours, said Bandyopadhyay.
The toll in the state is now 99 apart from 72 co-morbid deaths, said the home secretary.

Rajasthan on Saturday added 57 fresh cases and three more deaths to its novel coronavirus tally, pushing the total number of infections to 3,653 and fatalities to 103.
As per state Health department, among the fresh cases, maximum 20 surfaced in Udaipur, followed by 15 in Jaipur, 11 in Ajmer, three in Palii, two each in Churu and Rajsamand while one each in Kota, Jhalore and Barmer.

Haryana reported one death and six fresh Coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the state's death toll to nine and confirmed cases tally to 639.
According to an official bulletin, one patient succumbed to the deadly virus in Panipat district today, raising the death toll to nine in the state.
Three fresh cases have been reported from Sonepat district and one each from Panipat, Panchkula and Sirsa districts.
Of the nine fatalities, three death were reported from Panipat, two from Ambala and Faridabad districts while one death each was reported from Karnal and Rohtak districts.

Chief Medical Officer Dr KN Tiwari here said that the Bulandshahr Rajkiya hospital has received the reports of 18 patients from a Meerut lab, out of which 14 have tested negative. Out of these 14, 10 patients, whose second reports came back negative, have been discharged from the hospital.
Four among these hail from Mohalla Radha Nagar while two each from Sikanderabad, Bugrasi, Jahangirabad.
So far, the number of infected patients in the district is 61.
Maharashtra: Three new nCoV cases in Kolhapur

Brazil's death toll from Covid-19 has reached 8,536 as 615 more fatalities were recorded over the past 24 hours, the country's Health Ministry informed on Thursday.
Sputnik quoted the Ministry declaring that the number of Corona infections had risen by a record 10,503 over the past day to reach 125,218.
The ministry also confirmed that till now 51,370 patients have made a recovery from the disease.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Germany have reached 166,091 since the start of the pandemic as 1,284 new cases were registered over the past 24 hours, confirmed the Robert Koch Institute said on Thursday.
Sputnik quoted the institute confirming that the death toll in the European nation has reached 7,119 as 123 more deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.
On the bright side more than 139,000 patients have made a recovery till now since the start of the outbreak.
Covid-19 cases in India close to 53,000

India has witnessed a massive surge in Novel Coronavirus cases in the last week as the Covid-19 tally is racing towards the 53,000 mark with over 1,700 deaths.
As per the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare, 52,952 people across the country have been infected with the pandemic virus while 15,267 of them have recovered or migrated or been discharged.
Maharashtra, the state where the financial capital Mumbai is located, still tops the list of Covid cases as 16,758 people have been infected with the respiratory disease in the region.
Gujarat, the neighbouring state of Maharashtra, has recorded 6,625 cases followed by the national capital Delhi (5,532).
Assam’s first COVID-19 patient discharged from hospital

Assam’s first COVID-19 patient along with one more was discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.
The patients were discharged from Silchar Medical College Hospital and Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in Guwahati.
Assam’s first COVID-19 positive patient named 52-year-old Jalaluddin – a resident of Karimganj district was tested positive for COVID-19 on March 31 and he was shifted to Silchar Medical College Hospital.
After fighting for more than a month, the 52-year-old patient tested negative and he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.
The other COVID-19 patient was discharged from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury hospital on Wednesday.
West Bengal reports 112 fresh cases in last 24 hours

West Bengal has reported 112 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, said state's home secretary Alapan Badyopadhyay.
The total Covid cases in West Bengal is now 1456 while the active positive cases are now 1047.
Four people have died of Coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 72, said Bandyopadhyay.
The home secretary said 2,570 samples were tested in the last 24 hours while the total number of samples tested so far is 30,141.
West Bengal turns Medical College into tertiary level Covid hospital

Banerjee tweeted, "Keeping in view the increasing need of ramping up specialised COVID treatment in the State, we have decided to notify Medical College, Kolkata as a full-fledged tertiary level COVID Hospital, which will start functioning from 7th May 2020 onwards."
"The facility at Medical College, Kolkata will start with 500 beds (for both COVID and SARI) which would be scaled up as per need, in phases. This will be the 68th dedicated COVID hospital of West Bengal."

Afghanistan reports 168 new COVID-19 cases within 24 hours, 3,392 in total

West Bengal has reported 85 new cases and seven deaths in the last 24 hours, said state's home secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.
Bandyopadhyay said the total number of cases in West Bengal increased to 1,344, active cases now 940 and toll touched 68.
He claimed 2,455 samples were tested in last 24 hours while 27,571 samples were tested in total.
Maharashtra: 36 more SRPF jawans test COVID-19 positive in Hingoli
May 05, 2020, at 01:43 pmThirty-six more SRPF jawans and a nurse tested COVID-19 positive here, the second largest single-day spike in pandemic cases since May 1, informed sources from the District Civil Surgeon's Office on Tuesday.
On Monday night, 22 jawans and the nurse were found to be positive while reports of the remaining 14 personnel were received today.
With the new additions, the number of infected jawans now stands at 82, including 46 others, who earlier contracted the contagion.
Most these jawans have returned from postings in Nashik's Malegaon and Mumbai, both of these places, have high number of the COVID-19 cases.
The infected personnel are undergoing treatment at the SRPF Hospital.
Presently, this district has 89 confirmed cases, including seven civilians while has been cured.
Covid-19 Outbreak in India: Elderly woman dies in Karnataka's Vijyapura

India has recorded a major spike of 3,900 COVID-19 new cases in 24 hours as the nation crossed the 46000-mark on Tuesday, as per the Ministry of Health released data.
The total tally of COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 46,433.
So far, 1568 people have died due to the disease.
Across the country, 12726 people have been discharged from hospitals.
Maharashtra remained the top hit state with 14,500 cases. The state registered 583 deaths.

No new coronavirus cases were registered in New Zealand in the past 24 hours, according to Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.
"This is the first day of zero new cases and we want to keep it that way," Bloomfield said on Monday during his COVID-19 update broadcast by the Health Ministry on Twitter. "I’m pleased to say there are no additional deaths to report," he added.
According to the health official, New Zealand has a total of 1,487 coronavirus cases (this includes probable and confirmed cases); the country’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 20.
"Clearly these are encouraging figures today but it is just one moment in time," Bloomfield said.
According to The New Zealand Herald, this is the first time in about six weeks that not a single new coronavirus case was reported in the country across a 24 hour period.
According to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand will be reviewing its alert level, currently being a level 3, on May 11.
S Korea reports 8 more COVID-19 cases, 10,801 in total

South Korea reported eight more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of 0:00 a.m. Monday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,801.
The daily caseload hovered below 20 for 17 straight days. All the new cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined number to 1,099.
Two more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 252. The total fatality rate stood at 2.33 percent.
A total of 34 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 9,217. The total recovery rate was 85.3 percent.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has updated the data once a day at 10:00 a.m. local time from March 10, after having announced it twice a day.
Since Jan. 3, the country has tested more than 633,000 people, among whom 614,944 tested negative for the virus and 8,176 were being checked.
West Midnapore expects withdrawal from Red Zone tag

Three persons from Nizampur in Daspur have also been released yesterday from the same hospital. With this only 2 active cases of corona remain in the district now, the CMOH added.
No further cases of corona also received from the district from March 28 till date, Dr Saumysankar Sarangi Deputy CMOH who is in charge of all covid hospitals said.
No case of corona attack has also been found in the District HQ. Midnapore town.
Observers say that that the people of Midnapore are jubilant over this and expecting a good announcement regarding the status of the district in the next week or so.
Central team to be deployed in 20 worst-hit Covid-19 districts of India, including four metros

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is sending Central Public Health Teams to 20 worst-hit districts/cities in ten states across the country to support the state governments to implement novel coronavirus containment measures in the affected areas, officials said on Sunday.
Each Central team will comprise two Public Health experts, according to reports.
These teams will be deployed in South-East and Central districts of Delhi, Maharashtra's Mumbai, Pune and Thane, Tamil Nadu's Chennai, West Bengal's Kolkata, Telangana's Hyderabad, Gujarat's Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, Rajasthan's Jaipur and Jodhpur, Madhya Pradesh's Indore and Bhopal, Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow and Agra, and in Kurnool, Guntur and Krishna in Andhra Pradesh, which are the worst-affected by Covid-19, the reports added
