10 girls rescued from child marriage in two months in Assam's Hailakandi

Guwahati/IBNS: Childline of Hailakandi district has rescued children from child marriage and child labour with the help of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and district police.

Centre Coordinator, Childline Hailakandi, Saurav Nath said that out of nine cases of child marriages received in February, seven have been rescued and two have been wrongly reported.

Nath also said that three children have been saved from early marriage, two children from forced labour from Katlicherra Bazaar and an abandoned child rescued from Serispore last month.

Childline, a children's helpline agency, has rendered help in getting disability certificates for six numbers of differently abled children.

The organisation has taken a slew of initiatives to create awareness on child marriage, child labour, and other related issues and how to prevent them.

"A gamut of issues on child marriage, child labour, gender discrimination and on various schemes for the differently abled and girl child, including divyang certificate are being taken up to create awareness as per the monthly action plan," Nath said, adding that Childline has carried out more awareness campaigns than earmarked In the monthly action plan.
