11 members of a family found dead inside Delhi residence

New Delhi, July 1 (IBNS): 11 members of a family were found dead at their residence in New Delhi on Sunday, police said.

According to reports, most of the deceased was found hanging from the ceiling of the residence.

They were even found blindfolded, gagged and hands tied behind the back.

The deceased included seven women, two men and two boys aged 15.

Police have started investigating whether they killed themselves or were murdered.

As per NDTV report, the bodies were found hanging from an iron grill, blindfolded and mouths taped shut.

The house was not ransacked, reports said.

The women were found wearing gold jewellery, the police told NDTV.

During a search of the house, certain handwritten notes were found, which point to the observance of some definite "spiritual or mystical practices by the family," a communique from the police said in the evening as reported by NDTV.

"Coincidentally, the notes have strong similarity with the manner in which the mouths, eyes etc of the deceased were tied and taped," the communique read.

The family ran a grocery shop and plywood business in the  Burari's Sant Nagar area.

Police have started investigating CCTV footage.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the scene on Sunday morning.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) tweeted: "Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal reaches #Burari site, where 11 dead bodies were found in a house, today."
