Bijapur/Sukma (Chhattisgarh)/UNI: Five Maoists – including two women – were neutralised on Tuesday during encounters in Left-wing extremism-affected Bastar division’s Bijapur and Sukma districts both of which border Telangana.

The operation was launched following a tip-off about the presence of the Maoists in the area.

“Following a tip-off on Monday regarding the presence of approximately 40-50 armed ultras – including the Telangana State Committee’s senior leader Sudhakar – also a Divisional Committee member – in the hilly area of Perur, Ilmidi and Usur; the Greyhound special force was rushed from Telangana besides District Reserve Group and Central Reserve Police Force personnel from Bijapur,” Inspector General (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said.
