7.5 earthquake rocks Afghanistan, tremors felt in Pakistan, India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for an urgent assessment of the same while stating that the country is ready to provide assistance to the neighbouring affected Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The quake had its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. Major tremors were even felt in Pakistan.
The IMD website said the epicentre of the quake is located at latitude 36.5 degrees north and longitude 70.8 degrees east.
The IMD called the intensity of the quake, which occurred at 14:39, as 'great'.
PM Modi tweeted, "Heard about strong earthquake in Afghanistan-Pakistan region whose tremors have been felt in parts of India. I pray for everyone's safety."
"I have asked for an urgent assessment and we stand ready for assistance where required, including Afghanistan & Pakistan," he tweeted.
Pakistani media reports said 52 people were killed in the country while 194 others were injured in the quake.
People rushed out of offices and homes in Delhi as well as in Chandigarh.
Metro services were temporarily halted in the national capital.
In Srinagar, phone and electricity lines are down.
