AAP retains Bawana seat in Delhi Assembly bypoll

| | Aug 28, 2017, at 07:52 pm
New Delhi, Aug 28 (IBNS): With Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managing to retain the Bawana seat in the recently concluded bypoll was a fillip to Arvind Kejriwal's leadership, according to media reports on Monday.

AAP, represented by Ram Chander, won the election by a margin of 24,000 votes, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in second place and Congress third.

Bawana is one of the biggest assembly constituencies of Delhi.

Ram Chander defeated former party colleague Ved Prakash who left AAP for BJP in March this year, which in fact necessitated the bypoll as Ved Prakash had to resign as a legislator.

After today's win, AAP has 66 MLAs in the state assembly of 70 members.

In its official Twitter handle, AAP said, "Thanks to people of Bawana for showing confidence in AAP. Congratulations Ram Chander Ji for winning election."
