Panaji/IBNS: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed concern over people coming to the state, many of them believed to be for holidaying, following new coronavirus cases coming to light in the state after a period of one month.

He said people should not come to Goa in special trains for leisure trips as the the beaches and the hotels are closed to control the spread of coronavirus, said reports.

“People, who still want to come to Goa, will be put at hotels that have been converted into makeshift institutional quarantine centres. But, we’ll make them pay for their stay at these quarantine centres,” the CM said while addressing a press conference, a Hindustan Times report said.

"Around 500 people will be arriving by the first train to Goa from New Delhi on Saturday since the nationwide lockdown restrictions were imposed on March 25," he said, adding that the figure has been confirmed by the Railways.

Goa reported eight new cases of coronavirus on Thursday after remaining virus-free for a month, said reports.

The Chief Minister said passengers, including non-Goans, arriving in Goa from May 15 in special trains and flights, will be taken to the South Goa District Hospital from the Madgaon railway station for testing.

Those who test positive for the infection will be admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital which has been converted into a dedicated Covid-19 facility.

The people who test negative will be sent home and asked to go under 14-days quarantine, he added.

Passengers arriving by flights will be tested at the airport and the same applies to those coming in ships, for which arrangements have been made in Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), he informed, said reports.
