After gaining Deputy CM's post, Pawar's NCP set to bag major portfolios in Maharashtra govt

Mumbai/IBNS: After gaining the Deputy Chief Minister's post, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is set to bag major portfolios including Home Ministry in the newly-formed Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, media reports said.

The NCP is likely to get Home, Finance and Housing portfolios.

As per media reports, NCP's Anil Deshmukh is likely to get the Home Ministry.

In terms of the number of portfolios too, the NCP has an edge over ally Shiv Sena. While the NCP has 16 berths, 15 portfolios are under the Sena's belt.

Pawar's nephew and NCP MLA Ajit has become the Deputy of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray who is also the Sena supremo.

Following the fallout with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had emerged as the single largest party in the state polls with 105 seats, the Sena moved towards the NCP and arch-rival Congress to cobble up the majority numbers.

After a high scale political drama in the western state, the three disparate political forces came together to form the government with Uddhav as the Chief Minister.

In the state polls, the NCP got just two less than Sena's 56 seats while Congress bagged 44 seats.
