Guwahati, Feb 25 (IBNS): After the encounter of terrorist Sohan D Shira, Commander-in-Chief of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Meghalaya police have stated that it is now planning a crack down on the Garo outfit and the banned United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I), led by Paresh Baruah.

The Meghalaya police is also planning to target top ULFA-I terrorist Drishti Rajkhowa, who is likely to take charge of the Garo outfit group after Sohan D Shira’s demise.

SB Singh, Director General of Police, Meghalaya, said that the offensive was culmination of the last 4 year's intensive counter insurgency operation in Garo Hills area.

“We have alerted the BSF and other paramilitary forces to keep vigil along the international borders to intercept his (ULFA-I leader Drishti Rajkhowa) movement,” the Meghalaya DGP said.

The top Meghalaya cop further said that Rajkhowa may make an attempt to regroup GNLA.

SB Singh has confirmed that GNLA was behind killing of Jonathone N Sangma, NCP candidate for Williamnagar.

Jonathone N Sangma and three others were killed while militants ambushed a convoy of the NCP candidate in East Garo Hills district on Feb 18.
