Agra Municipal Corporation house could not take proposal to rename Taj Mahal

Agra: A proposal to rename the Taj Mahal as Tejo Mahalay could not be tabled in the special session of Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) house on Wednesday due to ruckus by the corporators.

Official sources said the ruckus started in the AMC house, which started at 3 pm, even before the proposal could be tabled.

"Initially Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) corporators entered into a verbal duel. In the meantime, a Congress corporator reached the house with copies of the orders passed by the Supreme Court and the High Court," they said.

The Congress corporator pointed out the courts have taken the petitioners for task on petitions to rename Taj Mahal in the past, therefore the house should not take up such a proposal. After this the corporators indulged in sloganeering in the presence of BJP MLA Dr GS Dharmesh.

Initially Mayor Naveen Jain and Municipal Commissioner Nikhil Tikaram Funde tried to appease the corporators, but as the din continued the mayor adjourned the house sine die.
