Stockholm, Nov 29 (IBNS): An Air India aircraft on Wednesday hit a building at the Arlanda airport here with its wingtip while taxiing, reports said.

The aircraft was carrying 179 passengers at the time. No injuries were reported.

"The passenger plane collided with its left wing tip in a building 50 meters from Terminal 5 on Arlanda," police said. The Boeing aircraft was on its way to the terminal.

"The 179 passengers were able to get off the plane on a mobile staircase and then enter the terminal," the police said, adding that they were conducting an inquiry to find out how to accident took place.

In October, an Air India Express Boeing 737-800 bound for Dubai from Tirucirapally had hit a boundary wall while taking off. The accident had damaged the aircraft's underbelly and landing gear.

The flight was eventually diverted to Mumbai as a precautionary measure.

Reports said the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower noticed the damage and immediately informed the pilots that they may have come in contact with the perimeter wall at the airport. But the pilots said the aircraft was operating normally.
