Mumbai/IBNS: Air India is taking international bookings to ferry stranded passengers in India to destinations in the US, UK, Canada and Europe under the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission.

The booking for these destinations started from 5 pm on Friday. The national flyer's website recorded six to seven times more activities and over 22,000 seats were sold by Saturday morning.

However, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said normal International civil aviation operations will only start when they can owing to various constraints such as restrictions in metro cities where international airports are located making it difficult for passengrs to travel to those cities, and quarantine requirement of 14 days on arrival in many of those cities.

“We have to wait for the domestic operations to touch about 50-60% and consider the behaviour of the virus and its spread to fully lift these restrictions and Lockdown. Till then flights under Vande Bharat Mission are facilitating both inbound & outbound international passengers,” the minister had written in a tweet.
