Kolkata/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in the city last night, will start the day by attending the Rabindra Jayanti programme at Jorasanko Thakurbari on Tuesday on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

In the morning Shah will pay tribute at the statue of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at Jorasanko Thakurbari.

After attending this programme, Shah will head to Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district in the afternoon to take part in the foundation stone laying ceremony and inauguration of various development projects of the Land Port Authority of India and BSF.

Later, Shah will attend a function at Science City for the release of the full dome film "Luminaries of Bengal" and inauguration of several projects to be followed by attending Rabindra Jayanti celebration by "Khola Hawa".

He said Shah will speak on Tagore's influence on modern Indian thought.

The event is being supported by the Ministry of Culture as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations in the country, Dasgupta said.
