Guwahati, Feb 27 (IBNS): Assam police sleuths on Monday grilled former minister Gautam Roy in Guwahati for a couple of hours in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission's (APSC's) cash-for-job scam.

An Assam Police team led by Dibrugarh ASP SS Panesar grilled the former Congress minister at the premises of Assam police Special Branch at Kahilipara.

The team is said to have noted a few statements from Roy on his alleged involvement in the job scam.

A top police official said that the former Congress minister, who is known to be close to Rakesh Paul, the sacked chairman of APSC, had allegedly brokered the deal with a number of Congress leaders to ensure jobs under APSC for their candidates.

Gautam Roy, a powerful politician from Barak Valley, helped Rakesh Paul to get the top post in APSC.

Roy was earlier grilled by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption branch of Assam police last month for his alleged involvement in the Rs 2.250 crore scam in the Social Welfare department.

In the cash-for-job scam, Assam police has already arrested eight people including former APSC chairman Paul, his associates Samedur Rahman, and Basanta Doley, an engineer.

Meanwhile, the top police official said that Assam Police is all set to submi tthe first charge-sheet for the scam before the court within a short time.
