Army urges Kashmiri women to play pro-active role in encouraging youth to shun violence

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) A top Army Commander on Saturday urged the women in Kashmir Valley, especially those whose children had joined militancy, to motivate them to shun the path of violence and stop others from picking up guns, assuring them of full co-operation and security, from their side.

General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen K J S Dhillon, also accused all possible help to them for rehabilitation in the mainstream.

''I would once again, from the bottom of my heart, want to appeal to all Kashmiri mothers to stop their sons from picking up weapons and persuade the ones, who have deviated from the path, to join the mainstream,'' Lt Gen Dhillon said, while addressing a Passing-out-Parade of the newly-recruited cadets at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) regiment at Rangreth in outskirts of the city.

''I guarantee you that I will help them to once again get settled in the mainstream,'' he said.

''Life is the most precious gift given to you by God, so live that happily with your families,'' he added.
