New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday wished Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his birthday and said he is making numerous efforts for the nation's progress.

Modi said Amit Shah is doing 'commendable work' in reforming the important cooperatives sector.

Wishing Shah, Modi tweeted: "Birthday greetings to Shri @AmitShah Ji. As India’s Home Minister he is making numerous efforts for our nation’s progress. He is also doing commendable work in reforming the important cooperatives sector. May he lead a long and healthy life in service of our nation."

Amit Shah turned 58.

Shah was born on Oct 22, 1964.

Shah is considered as a close associate of Modi.

Shah had earlier served as the BJP President.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also greeted the leader on his birthday.

In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha polls from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, a former MP seat of BJP veteran LK Advani.

Emerging as a winner by a huge margin, Shah replaced Rajnath Singh as the Union Home Minister in Modi 2.0.

After assuming the ministry, one of the major steps he has taken is the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A diluting Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
