Ashok Gehlot as both Congress chief and Rajasthan CM? Rahul Gandhi has this to say

| @indiablooms | Sep 22, 2022, at 10:48 pm

Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday reacted to his party colleague Ashok Gehlot's reported wish to continue as the Rajasthan Chief Minister even if he wins the grand old outfit's upcoming presidential polls.

Gehlot is likely to contest the Congress' presidential election taking on Thiruvananthapuram MP and former union minister, Shashi Tharoor.

When asked about Gehlot's reported wish, Rahul said, "We have made a commitment in Udaipur, I expect that will be maintained."

Rahul made the comment in Kerala, where his parliamentary constituency Wayanad is located.

The Congress MP, who is holding a mega Bharat Jodo Yatra (a rally) in the country, has also given a piece of advice to the future party president, for which the notification was issued Thursday.

Rahul said, "You (future Congress president) are assuming a historic position that defines and has defined a particular view of India. The Congress president is not just an organisational post but it is an ideological post, a belief system."

"So my advice would be, to whoever becomes Congress president, should remember that he represents a set of ideas, a belief system and a vision of India," the former Congress president, who stepped down from the post following the party's Lok Sabha poll debacle in 2019, added.

After Rahul stepped down, his mother and Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi was appointed as the interim party chief.
