Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the high-level committee on Assam Accord’s Clause 6 will submit its report to the Assam Chief Minister on February 25.

The Assam minister told media in Guwahati that, the committee has already prepared its report on Feb 10.

The centre has constituted the high-level committee for recommending measures to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

Chairman of the high-level committee retired Justice Biplab Sharma recently said that the committee had submitted its report to the Assam Accord implementation department on Feb 10 and informed the centre by sending three letters.

“When Union Home minister Amit Shah visited Assam recently, he has advised the Assam government that Chief Minister should receive the report on his behalf. Accordingly on February 25 at 12 o’clock Assam Chief Minister Sonowal will receive the report from the committee and we have already invited the committee. Union Home Minister also assured us that, after submission of the report, if there is something to discuss with the committee then he will again invite it so that things can be sorted out,” Sarma said.

He further said that, if the report is all right constitutionally and legally and the report will fulfil the aspirations of the people of Assam then the state government will urge the centre to implement it speedily.

Advisor of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and member of the high-level committee Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that influx of illegal foreigners is a threat to the language, culture, identity of the indigenous people of Assam and the North-Eastern region.

On the other hand, over the issue of the ineligible person names inclusion in the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Assam minister said that the Assam government has already said on the record to the Supreme Court that, the NRC exercise needs a revision.

Recently, the NRC State Coordinator has sent a letter to the all Deputy Commissioner and District Register of Citizens Registration (DRCR) and asked them to provide details of ineligible persons whose names got included in NRC.

The final list of NRC was published on August 31 last year by leaving over 19.06 lakh people.

The complete list containing 3.11 crore inclusions and over 19.06 lakh exclusions has been uploaded in the official website of the NRC State Coordinator following order of the Supreme Court.
