Assam: CRPF officer, student killed in firing incident

Guwahati, July 17 (IBNS): A CRPF officer and a student were killed and five others including four security personnel were injured in a firing incident in Assam's Nalbari district on Friday, officials said.
The incident took place at Tihu Nathkuchi area in the lower Assam district, when a CRPF jawan had fired upon a group of protesters who blockade the highway demanding various issues.
 
In the firing incident an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of CRPF and a student protester were killed and five others including four CRPF jawans injured.
 
"Constable of 136th battalion of CRPF had fired upon the protesters and his colleagues by his service rifle. The CRPF troops had engaged in operational task to maintain law and order situation at the protesting site, " a district administration official said.
 
In the firing incident, CRPF ASI DR Bordoloi and a 15 year old student Himangshu Tamuly killed on spot.
 
A protester Brajen Baishya, CRPF jawans Dayaram Bodo, Janardan Mohale, Diganta Bonia and Nirmal Das were injured in the firing incident and they were rushed to Guwahati Medical College hospital.
 
Later security personnel caught Amal Das who tried to committed suicide himself after the firing incident.
 
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
 
All Assam Students Union (AASU), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee (KMSS) have demanded to take stern action against the culprit and a high level inquiry.
