Assam farmer commits suicide after losing everything in flood and erosion
The incident took place at a relief camp near Bhuragaon area in the middle Assam district, where 45-year-old Kushal Nath hailing from Nijsohoria village under Bhuragaon revenue circle committed suicide after losing his home, agricultural field, produce in flood and erosion.
According to the reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the current flood had claimed 76 lives across the state so far.
A top official of ASDMA said that, 11 persons died alone in Lakhimpur district, while 9 died in Morigaon, 8 in Kamrup (Metro), 6 in Golaghat, 5 each in Jorhat and South Salamara, 4 each in Sivsagar, Nagaon and Dhubri, 3 each in Dhemaji, Sonitpur, 2 each in Barpeta, Goalpara, Karimganj and Hojai and one each in Dibrugarh, Majuli, Nalbari, Cachar, Dima Hasao, Bongaigaon district.
“Over 20,000 hectares crop areas are still under water in 9 districts,” the official said.
The flood situation in Assam has gradually improved, but still over 89,000 people of 11 districts are affected in the current flood.
