Guwahati, May 19 (IBNS): The Assam government will be awarded cash prize to contractors those will maintain quality in their works.

Announcing that those PWD contractors who maintain quality in their works and complete their tasks within stipulated time frame would be awarded with cash prizes by the state government, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the government is striving to ensure top notch quality in construction in the state so that people feel the difference the government seeks to bring to their lives.

Reviewing the functioning of the State PWD Department on Friday in a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Conference Room at Janata Bhawan, the Assam CM said that the first prize for best performing contractor would be Rs 10 lakh rupees, second prize Rs 7 lakh and third prize would be Rs 5 lakh, so that contractors are motivated to deliver quality services and compete among themselves in maintaining top quality in their works.

Sonowal also said that the names of the concerned contractor and the PWD engineer for a specific construction work have to be published in the form of advertisements so that people are informed about those who are responsible for carrying out the work and make them accountable.

“The contractors will also have to inform the PWD department weekly about the progress of their works,” Sonowal said.

Saying that an online system must be put in place to monitor the progress of construction works, Sonowal directed PWD Department to closely coordinate with the Forest Department so that the dearth of construction material does not hamper the works.

In the meeting it was also decided that a two day contractor’s conference would be organised from May 31, 2017 at Guwahati.

Referring to government initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), allotment of Rs 7 crore to each constituency for repairing of roads, replacing all wooden bridges in the state with concrete bridges, Sonowal said that contractors’ role in implementing government’s vision is very crucial so that best quality of construction work can be delivered.
