Assam govt to take strong action against govt officials for negligence to duty

| | Oct 16, 2016, at 12:44 am
Guwahati, Oct 15 (IBNS) : After suspension of two General Managers of APDCL and AEGCL, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the state government will take strong action against government officials who shows negligence to duty.

The Assam CM further said that the decision for suspension was a result of collective failure of the Power Department as manifested in many recent incidents and taken after due diligence.

With a view to improve the power scenario of the state, Sonowal has made repeated appeals to the Power Department so that the common people don’t suffer from regular power disruptions.

The Assam CM while interacting with all senior officials and field level engineers of APDCL at Assam Administrative Staff College on  September 20, 2016 urged them to work with utmost dedication for improving power scenario of the state and to take adequate measures for uninterrupted power supply.

The Assam CM made similar appeals during his meetings with the senior officials of the Power Department also.

It has come to the notice of the Assam CM that a section of officials and staff of the Power Department has paid no importance to the needs of the common people of the state as a result of which power scenarios still remains bleak.

Even the officials of the Department have flouted the precedence of maintaining uninterrupted power supply where VIP and VVIPs are present for any programme which is evident from many recent incidents.

Power disruption occurred during the Cabinet Meeting held at Majuli on the day of its declaration as a District on Sept 8, 2016.

Even during the Chief Minister’s meeting with Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar alongwith two state Ministers, three Secretaries of Govt. of India and 11 senior journalists of national media from New Delhi at Brahmaputra State Guest House on Sept 19, 2016, power disruption took place twice.

Similar power disruption occurred while the Chief Minister was interacting with former Minister of Madhya Pradesh Government Vijay Bhargese recently at Guwahati Circuit House.

Inspite of these incidents of utter callousness and negligence of the officials of Power Department, the Assam CM didn’t take any drastic action against the responsible officers.

He rather made appeals to the officers and staff of the department to take prompt measures to improve power scenario and ensure uninterrupted power supply to all.

However, the Chief Minister was compelled to take action on the fourth incident when power disruption again took place at Nagaon Circuit House on Oct 12 while he was present there after attending a local programme.

The Assam CM said that he is fully committed to the cause of the common men and taking whirlwind tours of the state to acquaint with the problems faced by the people at grass root level and to chalk out plan for their solution.

The Assam CM appeals all Govt. employees to be compassionate to the interest of the common men and warns that any negligence to duty will not be tolerated.
