Guwahati, Apr 25 (IBNS): To appreciate the first time voters, the Karimganj district administration on Thursday organised an appreciation event for the first time voters at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Karimganj district in Assam.

The district administration also distributed prizes to the best selfies taken by the first time voters after exercising their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Karimganj district administration had organised an awareness campaign among the first time voters following the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The district administration on Thursday distributed prizes to 85 first time voters for their best selfie photographs after participating in the biggest democracy festival.

“We had organised a selfie contest under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program aiming to aware the youth voters. Our main aim was to increase participation of the youth voters in the elections,” a district administration official said.

During the event, the young voters had also taken selfies with the Deputy Commissioner and other officials of the administration.
