Guwahati: Moreh Battalion, under the aegis of IGAR(S), in a major success, foiled terrorist nexus by seizing Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs) and explosive material in the border town of Moreh in Manipur.

In the run up to the Assembly Elections in Manipur and associated high threat of terrorist attacks from Indian terrorist groups based in Myanmar, Assam Rifles has been proactively dominating the Indo Myanmar Border.

On Feb 23 specific intelligence inputs were received and an operation was launched  by Assam Rifles troops near Betuk village along the border.

The troops observed an individual moving on a foreign origin motorcycle entering India from Myanmar carrying a suspicious wooden box.

On being challenged by the troops, the suspect dropped the wooden box and fled back to Myanmar.

On examining the wooden box, six IEDs with cortex and electric wire were recovered.

It is assessed that the IEDs were meant to disrupt the election process in Manipur.

The seized items were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
