Assam to provide 100% free power supply to new oxygen plant
Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday decided to provide 100 percent free power supply to new oxygen plant set up in the state to avoid any crisis of oxygen supply to the COVID-19 patients.
Assam Health minister Keshab Mahanta and Water Resources minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday said in a press conference that, the decision was taken during the second cabinet meeting of Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government held at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
“The state government has decided will provide 100 percent free power supply to new oxygen plant set up in the state. The state government will also provide 100 percent free power supply for reviving closed oxygen plants. In case of expansion of existing plant, the new unit would be given free power supply. All existing oxygen plants would be given 20 percent free power supply,” Pijush Hazarika said.
All decisions will come into effect from January 1 this year but financial implications will be from April 1.
At present, Assam has a daily requirement of nearly 20 MT of oxygen and the state’s production capacity has gone up to 84.5 MT.
The Assam cabinet also decided that, the Chief Executive Members of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council will be accorded the status of cabinet ministers and the nomenclature of in-charge minister will be changed to Guardian Minister who will take responsibility of their respective districts and to appoint Debojit Saikia as the new Advocate General of Assam.
