Assaulted by Arvind Kejriwal's aide, AAP leader Swati Maliwal records statement with police

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Swati Maliwal, who is at the center of the harassment row involving party boss Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar, has recorded her statement with Delhi Police.

On Thursday evening a two-member police team met Maliwal four days after silence over an incident that has triggered a furious political spat between the ruling outfit and the opposition BJP.

A case might be registered based on the statement provided to the police.

This was hours after the National Commission for Women issued a summons to Kumar.

Swati Maliwal was assaulted by Bibhav Kumar at the Chief Minister's residence in Delhi's Civil Lines area on Monday.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh, confirming the "distressing incident" Tuesday, said she was waiting to meet the Chief Minister when Kumar "misbehaved" with her.

Delhi Police confirmed they received two calls from an unknown person within Arvind Kejriwal's residence but from a phone number registered to Maliwal alerting them to the harassment.

Maliwal later appeared at a police station in the area but left without filing a complaint.

The assault on Maliwal led to the BJP unleashing a flood of counter-attacks on the AAP and  Kejriwal, who was released on bail last week so he might campaign for his party in the ongoing general election after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in March in the liquor policy scam.

The BJP has said Kejriwal, who faces fresh demands to resign, is shielding his aide. Those accusations gained momentum Thursday after he seemed to avoid reporters' questions on this topic.

After Kejriwal ducked the question, Singh, said, "The entire country was in pain after seeing what happened in Manipur but PM Modi was silent on the issue. Prajwal Revanna raped thousands of women but PM Modi was asking for votes for Prajwal Revanna.

"When our wrestlers were protesting at Jantar Mantar, Swati Maliwal who was DCW chief was beaten up by Police...PM Modi remained silent on these issues. AAP is our family and has given a clear statement. BJP and PM Modi should answer all these issues that I mentioned...Politics should not be done on Swati Maliwal's issue..."

Kumar has accompanied Kejriwal to Lucknow, where the AAP supremo will campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
