Azamgarh remark: Jaitley defends Amit Shah

New Delhi, May 6 (IBNS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley has defended the party's Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah who sparked a controversy by calling Azamgarh a hub of terrorism.

"Is it not a historical fact that you had umpteen number of cases whether in Gujarat or in Delhi or in Batla House where people concerned came from Azamgarh and therefore these modules have functioned in Azamgarh. If Amit Shah refers to it in a slightly more harsh language anybody else you or me could have refer to it in a softer language," Jiatley told CNN-IBN.

Narendra Modi close aide Amit Shah sparked a fresh row after he called Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh a hub of terrorism to attacking the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP).

"What kind of a government are they running that they made Azamgarh a hub of terrorism?" asked Shah on Sunday at a rally while canvassing for BJP candidate from the seat, Ramakant Yadav.

"There was a blast in Gujarat and we found following the leads that all of the perpetrators had come from Azambarg to trigger the explosion," said Shah.

He said the ruling government is trying to get released from jail those accused of terrorism, having turned a place of brave people into a base of terrorism.

Soon after the remark, the SP reacted sharply and complained to the Election Commission (EC) to take note of the remarks and act against Shah
