Ban on poultry import into Jammu and Kashmir extended up to January 18
Srinagar: The government today extended the ban on import of poultry into J&K up to 18 January 2021.
“In continuation of the government order number 09-ASH of 2021 dated 07-01-2021 and in exercise of powers conferred under Contagious Disease Act, 2009, the ban imposed on import of live birds including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat for any purpose into the Union Territory shall continue to remain operative till January 18, 2021,” reads an order issued by the Animal/ Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department.
The order further says that the decision will be reviewed based on the evolving situation. Meanwhile, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary while talking to Greater Kashmir on the issue said: “People should not fear, but should remain aware.”
He said even if a single case of bird flu is found, “we will disclose it before the public and will not hide anything.
