Bangalore is Bengaluru from Saturday

Bangalore, Nov 1 (IBNS) The Karnataka capital Banglore is officially now Bengaluru. So is Mysore, another Karnataka city. It is now on be called officially Mysuru. Ten other cities of Karnataka also underwent a change in name.

Several towns and cities of Karnataka are going back to their old names in Kannada language.

The Union Home Ministry earlier cleared the change of names.

The renaming was effected on the day of the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has greeted the people of Karnataka on Kannada Rajyotsava.

"Greetings to people of Karnataka on Kannada Rajyotsava. May Karnataka scale new heights of progress in the years to come," the Prime Minister said.

Bengaluru or Bangalore is the third largest metropolitan area in India now and known as an IT hub.  So it is also called the Silicon Valley of India.

Located at a height of over 900 m (3,000 ft) above sea level, the city is known for its yearlong good climate.
