Bengal govt making all efforts to assist victims of Coromandel train accident: CM Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said the state government is making tireless efforts to ensure the safety and security of those who have been affected by the tragic train accident near Balasore.
Banerjee said around 206 people from Bengal are currently hospitalized, with approximately 73 receiving treatment; nearly 56 have already been discharged after treatment; and 182 remain unidentified.
"I'm deeply saddened to inform you that nearly 81 people from Bengal have lost their lives in the unfortunate accident. We are closely monitoring the situation from various locations, including Kharagpur, Santragachi, Howrah, and Nabanna,"she told the media persons on Sunday. evening.
Additionally, a dedicated team of IAS officers is actively working at the borders to ensure the safe transportation of individuals from Odisha to Bengal, the chief minister said.
"In order to support the affected families, we have decided to provide financial assistance," she said.
Banerjee said each affected family in Bengal will receive Rs 5 lakh, while those with severe injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh. Those with minor injuries will be given ₹25,000, and individuals who have not sustained physical injuries but are traumatized will receive Rs 10,000.
"We will also offer an additional ₹2,000 per month for the next three months, along with essential food items such as rice and lentils. Our emergency control room helpline numbers, 033-22143526/22535185, are available to anyone in need.
"GoWB will work in coordination with the Odisha Government to restore normalcy. During this challenging time, I kindly request everyone to stay calm and remain resilient," the Chief Minister added.
