Bengal Polls: Mamata's Trinamool candidate list to be out tomorrow, BJP to finalise names for two phases today
Kolkata/IBNS: Even after five days since the announcement of the poll dates, neither the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal nor its prime challenger Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced their list of candidates yet.
At this juncture, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, as reports claim, is likely to announce her party's candidate list Friday at her residence in south Kolkata.
The list is expected to comprise the names of candidates from all 294 seats.
As already reported, the Trinamool is likely to give importance to youth and women in its candidate list this year, in the backdrop of massive defections.
The Trinamool leaders above the age of 80 will not be given tickets to contest the polls.
As per reports, Trinamool young leaders Debangshu Bhattacharya, Sudip Raha are likely to be given tickets for the polls.
Likely any other elections, a line of Bengali film personalities like Raj Chakraborty, Soham Chakraborty, Saayoni Ghosh and Kanchan Mullick will possibly be the Trinamool candidates.
Banerjee has already announced that she will be fighting from Nandigram, which is the bastion of her former lieutenant and now BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
The BJP, which is aggressively campaigning in the state to unseat Banerjee, is holding a key meeting at party president Jagat Prakash Nadda's residence where several state leaders will be present.
BJP state president Dilip Ghosh Wednesday said the list is likely to be finalised for the first two of eight phases of elections, scheduled to be held Mar 27 and Apr 1.
