Bihar: Polling begins in second phase of Assembly polls
Patna/UNI: Polling for second of the three phased Bihar Assembly Elections in 94 seats began at 7 AM on Tuesday.
In this phase, 2,86,11,164 electorate would be exercising their franchise to decide the the fate of 1463 candidates in EVMs.
A large number of the electorate were seen at several booths waiting for their turn in long queues as the polling began at 7 AM. Voters were seen wearing masks and also maintaining social distance as per guidelines issued by Election Commission, in view of prevailing Corna pandemic.
Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan was among the first electorate to exercise their franchise at a booth in Patna.
He appealed to the people to cast their votes.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also exercised his franchise in Patna.
Modi appealed to people to follow guidelines of Election Commission, issued in view of Corona pandemic.
After the first phase of polling in ongoing Bihar Assembly Elections in 71 seats on October 28, polling is now in progress in 94 seats where 2,86, 11,164 electorates would be exercising their franchise at 41, 362 polling stations to decide the fate of 1463 candidates including 146 women. Tejaswi led Grand Alliance and Nitish led NDA are two main power contenders.
Both Grand Alliance and NDA have put their all energies and resources at their disposal to get blessings of the people for formation of the government for next term. While Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is the CM face of NDA in ongoing Assembly Elections, RJD leader Tejasvi Prasad Yadav is the CM face of Grand Alliance.
RJD has fielded 56 candidates including four women, it's constituent in Grand Alliance, Congress has fielded 24 candidates including two women. Other constituents of Grand Alliance, CPI and CPI(M) have fielded four candidates each. A total of 513 Independents including 45 women are also in the fray for the second phase of Bihar Assembly Elections.
Similarly, BJP has fielded 46 candidates including two women and JD(U) has fielded 43 candidates including 9 women. Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), a constituent of NDA has fielded 5 candidates.
LJP, while remaining with NDA at the Centre and contesting separately from it in Bihar, has fielded 52 candidates including 7 women, RLSP fielded 36 candidates including 3 women, BSP fielded 33 candidates including two women and NCP fielded 29 candidates including two women for the second phase of Bihar Assembly Elections.
The maximum number of 9 women have been fielded by JD(U) followed by 7 by LJP, 4 by RJD, 3 by RLSP, two each by Congress, NCP, BJP and BSP.
