BJP government in UP completes one year under Yogi Adityanath
Lucknow, Mar 19 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh has completed a year under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as the ruling party will celebrate the occasion in the state capital on Monday.
The BJP had assumed the power in the state exactly a year ago.
The BJP and its allies had registered a landslide victory by winning 325 seats in the 403-member Assembly.
The Samajwadi Party (SP)-Congress alliance had failed to stop the saffron surge in the state.
Then UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's SP was reduced to just 50 odd seats.
After the poll-victory, in a surprising move, the BJP had appointed firebrand Hindutva leader Yogi Adityanath as the CM of the state.
However, the journey of Adityanath was not all roses but had thorns too.
His government came after the scanner when more than 70 children had died in a state hospital allegedly due to encephalitis though Adityanath denied the cause.
Though he emerged as victorious in municipal polls, the BJP had received a blow in the recently concluded by-polls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur constituencies.
Stunning the BJP, both the seats were snatched by the Samajwadi Party (SP), which was backed by Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Both the seats were the bastions of Adityanath and deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
