BJP leader Vishwajit Rane meets Goa Governor amid suspense over next CM

| @indiablooms | Mar 13, 2022, at 06:11 am

BJP's Vishwajit Rane, who is tipped to be the next chief minister of Goa, met the state's Governor on Saturday.

After the meeting, Rane told reporters it was a "personal meeting" while BJP sources said they were unaware of his visit to the Governor's house.

According to media reports, Rane had dodged a question whether Pramod Sawant would be the next chief minister of Goa, saying it was a "sensitive question" and he "does not know". At that time Sawant was trailing from his seat but later managed to win the Sanquelim constituency defeating Congress candidate Dharmesh Saglani by a margin of over 650 votes.

Rane, a former state health minister, won from the Valpoi seat while his wife, Deviya, who was fielded by the BJP emerged victorious from the Poriem assembly constituency.

With 20 MLAs in its kitty (1 short of the majority mark), the BJP emerged as the single largest party. It also has the support of a key regional player, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), and three Independent MLAs.

Even as the BJP is all set to form the next government in the coastal state, it has still not announced the name of the next Chief Minister.
