Cabinet clears trust formation to build Ayodhya Ram Temple

New Delhi/IBNS: In a major announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said his cabinet has cleared the formation of a trust, as directed by the Supreme Court, to pave the way for the construction of Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Modi said, "The Supreme Court had given the judgment in favor of Ram Temple. It had also asked the Sunni Waqf Board to be given 5 acres of land. This morning, in a meeting, major decisions have been taken in line with the judgment of the Supreme Court."

On Nov 9 last year, the Supreme Court passed a judgement with 2:1 ratio stating the disputed Ayodhya site belongs to Hindus but granted a separate five-acre land for the Muslims to build a mosque.

The top court had directed the Centre to form a trust to build the temple, the construction of which was a promise by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 General Elections.

Modi said the trust, which has been named as "Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra", "would be independent and would be able to make all decisions for a huge temple on the birthplace of Lord Ram".

"We requested for the 5 acres of land for the Sunni Waqf Board to the Uttar Pradesh Govt in Ayodhya. The Uttar Pradesh Govt has given its approval," added the Prime Minister.

Giving a push to the tourism sector, he said, "The government has taken another big decision keeping in mind the number of pilgrims expected to visit the to-be-made Ram Mandir."

"My government has decided that the authorized land, that is about 67.703 acres and has an inside and outside courtyard, will be transferred to the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra," said Modi.

Congratulating Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commitment towards the temple of Lord Ram who represents India's reliance and utmost respect. It is a proud day for all Indians."
