Kolkata/IBNS: The Calcutta High Court Wednesday granted permission to the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to visit Sandeshkhali on Thursday.

The court said Adhikari should abide by some restrictions in the restive areas of North 24 Parganas where Section 144 of CrPC has been enforced for over two weeks.

The Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh was permitted to visit only two localities - Jeliakhalia and Halderpara - on Thursday, HC single judge bench of Kaushik Chanda said after considering the BJP leader's fresh prayer.

The judge said Suvendu should refrain from making provoking speeches there and must report to the local police station, sources said.

On Feb 20, Adhikari visited Sandeshkhali following a Calcutta HC order and assured the people that he would visit again and meet them, who allegedly suffered sexual harassment and lost land to the musclemen under the leadership of Sahjahan Sheikh, who is now evading arrest.
