Calcutta High Court judge Protik Prakash Banerjee passes away
Kolkata/UNI/IBNS: Calcutta High Court judge Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee passed away on Friday following cardiac arrest.
He was 51.
Justice Banerjee passed away early in the morning at a city hospital, Calcutta High Court Registrar General said.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court at Calcutta on Sept 19, 2017 and took oath as an Additional Judge on Sept 21, 2017.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar saddened the passing away of Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee
Talking to his Twitter handle, Dhankhar said, “Saddened by passing of Hon'ble Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee #CalcuttaHighCourt today at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital.”

Mourning Justice Banerjee's demise, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Shocked and saddened to hear the news of passing away of Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee, Calcutta High Court Judge and former Vice President of High Court Bar Association. Condolences to his friends and family who have suffered such a terrible loss."

Born on Jun 1, 1969, Justice Banerjee, was educated at Calcutta Boys’ School and University College of Law, the University of Calcutta.
Between 1984 and 1994, he compared Western Music on All India Radio Calcutta and Yuva Vani.
He regularly wrote on matters unconnected with the law, between 1989 and 1994 in the Economic Times.
Justice Banerjee joined the High Court of Calcutta as an advocate in 1995 and was selected for the post of Junior Standing Counsel of the Government of West Bengal in 2011.
He was the first Advocate in India to have won a Judgment in favour of his client that an arbitrator under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996 is amenable to jurisdiction under Article 227 of the Constitution of India.
While at the Bar, he wrote commentaries on several subjects, including the Bengal Excise Act, the Essential Commodities Act, the Original Side Rules and the Appellate Side Rules, which went into more than one edition.
Justice Banerjee was elected the Vice President of the Bar Association of the High Court at Calcutta and took office on Jul 31, 2015 and demitted office on Jul 31, 2017.
