#Cauvery water dispute: SC raps both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on allowing agitations
The apex court was critical of both the governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for allowing agitations challenging a judicial order passed by the SC in public interest.
The Hindu quoted Justice Dipak Misra as saying, “We expect the State governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to maintain their dignity and respect for rule of law. We reiterate that neither bandhs nor agitations can take place after the Supreme Court has passed an order... Our order has to be complied with... Convey this to your governments today itself."
Justice Dipak Misra summoned the state panel lawyers of both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to the front of the court room while addressing them, media reported.
The petition was filed by a person from Tamil Nadu regarding damages to property and endangering the lives of people when mobs went on a rampage in public view in both states.
The apex court order on September 12 had refused Karnataka's plea to stop the release of 15000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu till September 20.
