CBI summons TMC's Birbhum chief Anubrata Mondal in cattle smuggling case

Kolkata/IBNS: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal in connection with its ongoing probe into a cattle smuggling case, officials said on Monday.

According to sources in the Central probe agency, CBI officials visited Anubrata Mondal's residence on Sunday evening and served him a notice where he has been asked to visit CBI's office in Kolkata's Nizam Palace for interrogation at 11 am. on Tuesday (Apr 27).

CBI officers said that one of Anubrata Mondal's close aides had also been summoned on the same day in connection with the same case.

Reacting to the CBI summon to Anubrata days before election in Birbhum, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday said, "Centre has been misusing its agencies against us. I heard that CBI has asked Anubrata to appear for interrogation on Apr 27 when polling is scheduled to be held in Birbhum on Apr 29."

"I have directed Anubrata not to visit CBI's office on Tuesday and to inform the agency that he will meet them after the election," Banerjee said.
