Centre has recognized Nagas unique history, culture and traditions: Nagaland CM Rio

On the Naga political issue, Rio said that many people talk about politics but there is hardly anyone to act and to do the corrective measures.

“For the last 17 decades Nagas have been suffering for the naga political issue, because it is our birth right, but we have to be reasonable and responsible in a manner that what is possible and what is not and what is achievable. The present student leaders are the future of our society, therefore we have to take life seriously and learn equip ourselves to face the challenging world. Government of India has recognized our unique history our culture and traditions. So Nagas have to unite and find a settlement and the students and youth of today have to work together to build our future,” Rio said.

Attended the 71st  Chakhesang Students Union General Conference coinciding with Pfutseromi Students Union as a guest host at Pfutseromi village on Thursday, the Nagaland Chief Minister said on the present Citizenship (Amendment) Act issue that, the state government demanded the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873 should be enforced in Nagaland, the Government of India has been kind enough and agreed that the BEFRA 1873 will be enforced and that we Nagas have been exempted and protected from CAA including 6 schedule  tribes of North East.

“The Union Home Minister has also assured that CAA will not affect the Nagas but our people should use the ILP carefully otherwise the danger is our own people who will misuse it so it is the duty of the Government of Nagaland that the ILP is enforced properly,” Rio said. 

Speaking at the gathering, the Chief Minister said that he was delighted to be part of the celebration and extended warm New Year greetings to all present at the celebration.

He said that we live in a very competitive world and that life is not easy and therefore we have to be very serious in life.

He added that he has very high respect for the Chakhesang community. Phek district is a traditional district, Chakhesang are still upholding the rich culture and traditional values and is one of the most progressive tribe among the nagas and that Phek district has improved a lot in the literacy rate.

Rio holds a great friendship with Pfutsero and particularly Pfutseromi village and it is heart-warming to know that Pfutseromi Students Union is the pioneer of Chakhesang Students Union and also it has produced many leaders who have contributed a lot for the nagas.

He said that education is a very interesting and serious business as we know education in one of the best thing that has happened to Nagas after Christianity, so one should pursue education very seriously and we should take one’s student period seriously so that we build our future with knowledge as a man without education is like a bird without wings.

Earlier the Chief Minister unveiled the platinum jubilee monolith in the presence of Neiba Kruno, Minister Planning & Co-ordination, Land Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs, Pukhayi Sumi, Advisor Food and Civil supplies and taxes, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs, Toshi Wungtung, Advisor IPR, SCERT, Village Guards, DC Phek, SP Phek, CSU officials and host  of public leaders.

During the programme, welcome address was said by Menyelhi Mero, VCC, Pfutseromi Village, presidential address by Vibi Mero, President, Pfutseromi Village Students Union, A brief history of pfutseromi village students union was said by Wepretso Mero, NCS, (Retd) Commissioner & Secretary, greetings by Lavoto Chizo, President Chakhesang Students Union, and vote of thanks by Dr Neisatuo Mero, Convener, Planning committee, Platinum Jubilee.
