Centre restores foreign fund license of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity

New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has restored the foreign fund license of Catholic religious congregation established by Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa, media reports said.

The license has been renewed days after the ministry stated the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration, which is required to receive foreign funds, was not renewed.

The Home Ministry had cited noticing of "some adverse inputs" as the reason behind not renewing the license.

In late December, a massive row broke out after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, followed by several other politicians, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government of "freezing" all the bank accounts of MoC.

However, the claim was rubbished by the Centre.

"MHA did not freeze any account of MoC. State Bank of India has informed that MoC itself sent a request to SBI to freeze its accounts," the MHA statement read.

After the foreign fund license was restored, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien tweeted, " The FCRA registration for Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity is back. (Screenshot) The ‘adverse inputs’ harassed so many and then disappeared in two weeks. The POWER OF LOVE is stronger than the power of 56 inch."

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram tweeted, "FCRA nod for Missionaries of Charity restored - The Hindu. Guess public opinion & international reaction yielded this."
